Case study
Scheduled dry docking for the CARAWA – Port Lincoln Tugs
MG Engineering was engaged in February 2023 by Australian company Port Lincoln Tugs to slip their vessel, the ‘Carawa’. PLT service a variety of different products, ranging from gypsum, sand, lead, grain and petroleum.
The Carawa is a 190 tonne tugboat that was due for a major scheduled dry docking.
While the Carawa was slipped on-site at MG Engineering, our team needed to perform the following ship repair tasks:
- Clean, blast and paint the hull.
- Repair and paint the deck, wheelhouse, Monkey Island and auxiliary components.
- Fix leaks on Wheelhouse windows.
- Empty and clean tanks to be ready for surveyor inspection.
- Remove and replace corroded steps.
- Wash engine room and clear bilge areas.
- Wash and inspect anchors and anchor chains, paint anchors and anchor storage compartment.
- Remove and refurbish sea valves including Surveyor witnessing.
- Facilitate hydraulic, mechanical and electrical works by others.
